I say happy birthday to my dead parents. It's their birthday. Heaven has nothing to do with it.
Mama was born in 1913, died 2001. Daddy was born 1911, died in 1967.

If someone is posting it about their own parent or close relative that's fine, they can grieve and remember however they like. If they are reaching out to you about your closet family member with that, it's well intentioned but yes grating if you don't share that view.

I give them major side eye on FB and would be quite irritated by them if they were texts. I don't mind it if it's like, someone saying their mom who's been dead for 15 years would be 100 today, she was such a cool lady! But when it's my sister posting sappy crap each year about my dad who died 5 years ago in his 60s, yeah, that's annoying AF.

That's really weird. Birthdays can be really hard for a close deceased relative and for your mom/dad/sister it feels like she's trying to make it about herself.
You know your cousin but for my relatives who are attention seeking, confrontation wouldn't really help as it would just be another thing for them to make about themselves. You could mute this cousin so you don't have to see her messages.

Do these posts irritate anyone else? I have several deceased relatives (mother, father, sister, grandparents), and each year my cousin sends me "happy heavenly birthday!" texts and posts them on FB. I know she means well, but I find this tradition silly. There are no heavenly birthdays when a person is dead. I am pragmatic and don't need things like that to cope. However, my cousin does, and I get the impression that she would like me to send those messages to her on her deceased dad's birthday. I don't mind a thinking of you text, but the heavenly birthday crap grates on my nerves.
