move. sometimes its best to pick the better long-term living space and just let the school pieces fall into place.

They are saying if she enrolls in Eaton before moving in boundary for Hearst, she could stay at Eaton to the terminal grade and then enroll as an in-boundary student at Deal.

Well, OK. But if she gets to fifth grade and he thinks Deal is the better choice, he could always move in bounds for Deal to an apartment then. He isn’t buying.

I want to eaten and loved it. I had the option of going to Hearst, but I chose Eaton, or rather my parents did, because back then Eaton was viewed as by far the better school. But obviously that was decades ago, so who knows. I get the impression Hearst has improved.

Hearst is a fantastic school (first and second hand experience) and also feeds to Deal, so you would be all set for middle school.

My kid had a great experience at Hearst. The small size of the school is a plus - the community is very warm and welcoming. I heard good things about Eaton, too and I think both are good options.

I personally wouldn’t attend either school. I would opt for a school like Turner, Beers, or Randle Highlands.

Great community, amazing teachers, fun field trips, performances and activities.
I know people who are happy at Hearst too.
You are in a great situation, either school will be great.

+1 we loved Eaton!! DC is currently at Hardy which we also love! But you need to have a comfortable home for yourself and your child and I have heard great things about Hearst. I would not let that choice influence your decision.

You can manage middle school choice when it comes. I’m sure you will have a better sense of what your child needs by then. I wish you well!

Yes to this. If you are already enrolled, you can stay there through 5th. I know several Eaton families at Deal who did this.

Single dad to a 4 year old, we moved to DC to Woodley Park area a year ago, IB to Eaton. I have an opportunity to move to a much bigger, newer, slightly more expensive 2 bed 1 bath basement apartment compared to my very tiny (think kitchen and living room space is one and the same) 2 bed 1 bath basement apartment but IB school would change from Eaton (newly renovated, great diversity relatively, have toured) to Hearst (a relative unknown to me). I feel like the new place would allow us to actually live in our home as opposed to my current place where I just sleep and spend as little time as necessary in. The new place has an actual living room, I can see us enjoying the space and actually having others over for play dates. But current place is cheap, and I spend a lot of money on her nanny, and work extra shifts to allow us to take trips etc, and is in a great school district. I guess I just want to hear that Hearst is a great school from current Hearst parents and that yet another change in her life in the form of a move is worth it. Thanks for reading, sorry if this has been answered before I tried searching but navigating this site is weird.
