10% pre-tax for one kid in private (20% if we add in the kid who's in college). No way would I do this for longer than high school.

About 15% and we have a pretty big mortgage (but a really low rate so we don’t pay it off). We also have 3 in private school. I wouldn’t say we are scrimping, but we don’t drive expensive cars and our vacations are nice but not extravagant. We would likely have a summer house without private school, but don’t really need one. The kids all spend a month at sleepaway camp in the summer and then we go on a multi week vacation, so the summer house would be an unnecessary luxury.

We are at 6% pre-tax for our one child. Our mortgage (including taxes) is another 8% pre-tax. We are in the SF Bay so your mileage may vary.

For sure. We are still in the early elementary years and don't need it yet. School is covering a lot and also doing plenty of repetition with homework. So we are doing away with extra workbooks and tutors for now.

3.75% for our two HS kids. I did not count our college kid's tuition in there.

I wouldn't say we're scrimping and saving to afford it. But yes, there are other aspects of our life that we have to make some difference choices because we chose private school (e.g., less fancy cars, less fancy vacations).

Tuition plus transportation for us for one kid if $60K. Right now we have one in public, although that one will likely go to private in the next few years. We have had a good few years and our HHI is approaching $4M now, so about 1.5% of our HHI goes to tuition. When both go, it'll be 3% but who knows if our income will stay that high (I am a business owner so income fluctuates).

About 20% and we have no mortgage, so our housing costs are pretty low.

What percentage of your HHI do you spend on tuition? I am curious mostly. Are most private school families scrimping and saving to send or are the vast majority of non-financial aid recipients so rich it doesn't matter to them?
