Stainless steel is my favorite. I do have a couple of the old PYREX ones with pour lips for mixing batter.

We have Vollrath stainless steel & Pyrex glass with lids (different uses). I probably got these recs from ATK product reviews. I also have a Mosser batter bowl and mixing set although I tend to use these as serving dishes occasionally as well.

My favorite mixing bowls are the plastic kitchen aid ones. They have rubber bottoms and a pour corner and come in lots of sizes. I throw them on the top rack of my dishwasher.

I have a glass bowl but I find it so heavy for just mixing, it's more of a trifle type dish, or a serving dish. I have metal ones, but I use them more for hot things - ie making chili crisp, or tossing hot french fries with seasoning.

I have a mix of stainless steel and glass/Pyrex, use both regularly.

Stainless: lightweight and super easy to clean. All of my largest bowls are stainless.

Pyrex: can go in the microwave, heavier but that can be an advantage sometimes.

I used to use a set of antique pottery bowls, until I discovered that they were finished with a lead-based glaze. Still have them, but they are purely eye candy now. Stainless and glass work well enough that I haven't bothered to replace them with modern ceramic bowls.

I also prefer stainless steel. I do like bowls with lips for pouring though but the only ones I have are melamine, which I don’t like because they don’t hold up in the dishwasher.

I have a set of porcelain mixing bowls that I got for a shower gift about 24 years ago. Love them. They are heavy and do not pour. That is fine with me because they stay put on the counter while I stir or use the mixer.

DH is a stainless steel mixing bowl person. I think the difference is that he does not bake, so he's usually only combining things gently (like marinating meat).

We own both.

Vintage pyrex bowls (some patterns are now expensive) - Nothing breaks them, they are just a solidly built piece of kitchenware.

I have a glass set but still prefer the metal mixing bowls I stole from my mom decades ago. I think the pros of metal (light, unbreakable) outweigh the cons (not microwaveable) compared to glass.
