Elon was the weird kid in school. He looked like his mother, but on him her beauty was stretched and rubbery and as pale as paste, an altogether unattractive smear of a face. He tried to participate with the other kids in fits and starts, and while he was generally accepted and never bullied, he was never one of the in crowed either. He was gawky and uncoordinated and couldn't make it to base during kickball and tended to hang out by himself on the edges of the yard during recess, kicking clods of dirt and examining unearthed stones in his weird clothing, too formal for a child at school.

LOL Those are the names of my grandfather's hound dog. They used to sit on the porch with him in the summer heat, their tongues handing out as they panted, then move to under the porch when the sun became too unbearable. No one could ever get grandpa to go inside,where it was dark and cool with the AC in the window blasting -- or get him to wear anything but a button down flannel shirt. One day he had taken off the flannel and was sitting there in his tshirt, and we knew something was wrong.

Troy's first wife had had no filter. She chattered on and on about literally anything that crossed her mind, while everyone else at table quietly sipped on -- sipped -- slurped their soup from the oversized silver soup spoons that had made it from Germany, and had the intials MJJ engraved on the handles. Once when one of the grandkids had asked who MJJ was, Troy's wife had ratched up the conversation to a fever pitch, talking about some dumb story she's seen on the news, thus successfully changing the story. Why was it always left to her to keep this family humming along and the secrets safe, she thought for the milliionth time.

I don't think shrieking teen girls would pick those names. They are solid, traditional, masculine names.
But when I saw your title I was expecting names more like "Rex" or "Troy."


Solid, traditional, masculine (and outdated) yes,but powerful, no.

Rex and Troy grew up, predictably, with old money -- and some WWII skeletons in their family closet. The stuffy paintings on the walls of the great room were not actually of their ancestors, something Rex found this out when he took one to the appraiser, once his own inheritance was running low. He wasn't sure he should share the news with Troy who had been an emotionally sensitive child who still lived in the upstairs nanny's quarters.
