It's not too different than Philly/Delco. When I moved from northern Maryland to NoVa as a child, a teacher singled me out for pronouncing "water" as "wooter." Had to stand up and say "wa-ter" five times in front of the rest of the class. Damn near child abuse.

And Anne Arundel County culture/speaking doesn't equal Baltimore. Even though not far from each other they have distinctions and don't overlap much, surprising to me as someone who moved to AA County from NOVA a few years ago. Also though, Baltimore City and County and AA county have large immigrant populations, so longstanding regional distinctions are disappearing. Baltimore is not the Hairspray movie anymore. In the entire area you have poorer to lower middle class immigrants looking for safe affordable housing, and rich immigrants looking for "the best schools", so hence, the area is becoming an areas of extremes just like everywhere else in the U.S., and no solid, middle class area full of old stock Americans (black or white) or affordable to them.

High tider. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Tider

The spelling is an approximation of a very strong High Tider accent.

PP. My grandma with 2 parents from the Davidsonville Road area had that, I think.

"Dog" sounded like "Doahg".

I had forgotten that. That sound and the "Warshington" were all we noticed at home.

A possibility is that Annapolis was a bit more cosmopolitan due to being the state capital and site of the Naval Academy. So people moving in from a variety of places statewide and across the US.

My grandmother had some rural features to her accent that were from farm country to the north ("Warshington"). Her parents were born near 424 Davidsonville Road and Annapolis was their local "big city". Her father was a Hopkins-educated country doctor. Her grandmother lived in Annapolis as a senior.

I was born and raised in D.C. but I’ve spent a good amount of time visiting friends who live in Baltimore and family out in Easton. Both of those areas have specific dialects or accents especially in certain words they use or way they say things that is noticeable.

Annapolis intrigues me because it seems the people I meet from there do not have bits of either but location wise being so close to both Baltimore and the Bay.
