As mentioned in another thread, we just used large, plastic totes. Worked great for transport (we drove) both for move-in and move out. It was nice when they came home that their stuff generally stayed contained in those containers and 2nd yr move in to a semi-furnished apartment (with those same totes) when very smoothly.

Before buying anything, double-check what the school allows. Some don’t allow “furniture” as defined in specific ways. Some don’t allow anything with wood or fabric.

Depends what's already provided. My son's dorm room comes with two low dressers. They can be laid out side by side, to provide table space, or stacked, and I think one of them fits under the bed. But DS preferred to put other stuff under his bed.

We have 3 kids and the two oldest were in a dorm for 2 years. We just moved the youngest into his 3rd year in a dorm. That drawer unit still looks almost brand new after 6 continuous years of service.

My DC will have a dorm loft bed with about 36 inch clearance. Does it make sense to get an IKEA or similar inexpensive dresser that would fit under there? Other under bed storage suggestions or ways to best utilize that space? TIA
