Looks like you get screwed if you go part time and your severance is based upon your most recent salary:

Currently I am a full time fed, but thinking about changing status to part time fed.

I am at the risk of being relocated(maybe next year), if so, I will likely take severance and leave fed.

I am not sure if changing from full time to part time affects severance pay.
