We have a big car and a compact car. When I drive the small car, I prefer backing in because parking nose-in makes it really hard to see around the car next to me when I'm trying to leave - especially if a big boxy SUV has parked nose-in next to me. When I drive the big car, I prefer backing in because it's easier to maneuver that way, and it doesn't block the view for the person in the space next me to quite as much (it's easier to see around the hood of the car than the back end).

IMO, the real narcissists are the ones who think their 15-second wait is a bigger deal than the very real safety improvements that come with backing in.

It's always the fat men in pick up trucks.

There is a definite type that chooses this parking method.

And a boring one at that.

How is this possible? Everyone learns to drive by pulling into spaces.

Not always. I grew up in the city so I learned to parallel park first. I'm still better at parallel than pull in parking. Kudos to people who can back in. I have never mastered that.

I prefer backing up when I know what's behind me. Backing into a spot means I don't have to back out blindly into a parking garage with people potentially walking by. So the opposite of a narcissist.

First responders etc often park this way.

It takes time to park - whether backing in or backing out.

Takes 60 seconds. What the hell is wrong with you, OP? No interesting thorns in your side?

If its a large car, then the angle might not be right to go in front ways or hard to back out because there's a pole there or something. I have a big car and just keep driving to the bottom so I don't clog the line. I also hate when you go into the costco pentagon lot and people wait for a spot in that row. For the love of God, just go to the next row so everyone can keep moving!

Some drivers find it easier to park backward. Give them 15 sec to park. Don't be a jerk.

It’s easier and safer to get out.

A whole group of cars behind you…but you have to back up. Is it just a compulsion? I simply don’t understand. I get why people want to back up into parking spots in general I guess but when you are holding up a whole groups of other drivers it seems like a little much.
