They also need to make a living and just like you they know what they're worth. If you can't afford, or you are too cheap to pay what your were quoted, then clean your own. house

I would say "Okay thanks for the quote; this may not be the right fit because our next door neighbor with a similar size house said they pay $200 so we were thinking it would be that amount."

Sometimes contract workers will quote you overly high rates because they don't really want the job, but will take it if you pay them the ridiculous rates.

They probably hesitate to raise rates on their existing clients. That’s why they’re jumping you up over the neighbor who recommended them. But sure, you can negotiate anything.

OP here. This is my thought as well. I’d rather get a few more quotes and pay someone what they ask for. DH thinks they intentionally start high knowing people try to negotiate.

With so many being deported, I think cleaning rates will actually go up. My friends in Ohio pay more than we do here. House cleaning rates here are very cheap since we had/ve so much undocumented labor.

Maybe you have pets or your house is more cluttered or you want beds stripped and remade?
