Subject: PCSB meeting: SEED out-of-cycle review
My oldest attended Thurgood and graduated in 2021 (the true pandemic year for DC schools). It met his needs, and we were very pleased. A lot has changed since then and many of the teachers and staff who kept the place afloat are gone. One of my grad students teaches there and asked why wasn't I sending my other child there. I was honest.

It looks like they got a warning a while ago because of special ed failures and then in June the warning was lifted despite evidence that they hadn't remediated all the issues. I was annoyed about that -- but maybe that's not the end of the scrutiny for SEED?

Because of their low scores on various metrics. If you go on DC School Report Card and look at the Summative Score for each, you can see they aren't doing well.

This year's review cycle includes LEARN, Global Citizens, Breakthrough, Goodwill Excel, Rocketship, Washington Leadership Academy, Briya, Latin, St. Coletta, KIPP, Thurgood Marshall, and The Next Step. Fifteen-year renewal votes for ITDS, Mundo, Richard Wright, and Shining Stars.
Of these, I'm most concerned about Rocketship, Shining Stars, and Thurgood Marshall.
