That's kind of the minimum to me. But I know people have their own personal meanings of if they consider themselves practicing or not.

I just saw a video of a woman on who was on the Love Island show - where they spend all day in mini bikinis, jump between men and sleep in beds with different men each week, make out constantly, and do all kinds of sexual activities and challenges. This was after the show from the UK and one of the women who was on the show said in an interview that she was a practicing Muslim. Much of the behavior and expectations for someone on that show would be counter to the Quran and teachings of Islam yet she considers herself a practicing Muslim. I could see if she just said Muslim but I wondered why she added practicing.

No. If you are raised a Catholic, that's what you think of yourself as. You can be a "lapsed Catholic" but you will never not have "Catholic" as part of who you are. A "practicing Catholic" is someone who actually goes to church and still believes.

YES. I am a lapsed Catholic, and a former practicing Catholic. More often, I just call myself an atheist.

I'm Jewish and would use the word observant, not practicing.

Never heard the term practicing Christian. The term Christian means “of Christ”, you don’t really need to practice anything. You either are of Christ or you aren’t. Maybe some people say it but I’ve never in my life heard it. Don’t know any Muslims so can’t comment about that.

I am not sure if other religions also use the described practicing, but I know bother Muslims and Christians who refer to themselves as a practicing Muslim or practicing Christian. To me that means that you are actively trying to live out the teachings of your faith vs it being a religion you were born into / raised in / identify with.

I have seen quite a few examples recently of people saying I am a practicing X but then they are not at all living in a way that would indicate they are trying to follow the teachings / texts of their faith. And not hiding that. So I am curious what people understand practicing Muslim / Christian to be and if you use that term, do you openly not follow the teachings of your faith and if so how do you rationalize these two things?
