The MCPS planners to estimate enrollment projections are consistently so far off the mark. This is precisely why regular boundary studies are needed. There is no excuse for some schools to be at 60% enrollment when a neighboring school is over 100%.

There’s rumors that they also will grant a COSA younger siblings (ie rising K and 1st) if the older sibling chooses to move.

When a COSA is granted it lasts through the rest of the grade levels at the school.

Not a great solution - It's just going to generate a transportation hassle for parents and make the class sizes bigger at Wyngate and Luxmanor. Plus, Luxmanor feeds another middle school, so potential friendship issues down the line.

Bethesda Elementary is doing the same, to Somerset. Rising third grader has consistently had class sizes of 28 to 31. Older kid did too.

But this was a temporary measure while a new ES was being built. In this case, no new ES is planned for this cluster.

This is also being described as a temporary option for Ashburton. Maybe it's a signal that an ES boundary study will be part of the next CIP?

Interesting. The class sizes at Ashburton, Luxmanor, and Wyngate would all be similar. But Luxmanor and Wyngate have available capacity in their buildings, while Ashburton is overcapacity.

Ashburton ES is offering a COSA for students going into 2nd-5th grade to go to Wyngate or Luxmanor. There aren’t too many details that they’ve provided other than that there won’t be any transportation arranged. Is anyone actually going to take advantage of this? Is the overcrowding materially worse this year? My rising 3rd grader at Ashburton has always been in class sizes of about 24-25. Are the classroom sizes materially smaller at other ES?
