Same. It was fine.

We flew it to Costa Rica. It’s very budget. they didn’t even serve drinks and legroom was tight but it was fine.

I flew it to costa rica in January from SFO. I flew business class. It's nothing fancy, but fine.

I was worried when i booked flights for spring break. We flew business to Ecuador and it was perfectly fine. The seats were a little worn but the service was excellent.

It's fine. You want to make sure you read the fine print on seats as some do not recline unless you book the nice seats. Other than that, traveling from CR, it was uneventful and fine.

Avianca is Colombia’s largest airline. It’s been around a long time and has a good safety record. Yes it flies to Central America. So do United and American — does that make them Central American airlines as well?

It’s also not a discount airline like Spirit.

I routinely took the direct Aviana flight from Dulles to Bogota when I had work down there and it was a perfectly pleasant experience.

Don’t make me go Inigo Montoya on your ass.

Ok. I just get so frustrated by all the ignorance

It's fine. They are low frills, but perfectly fine. Be aware on most of their flights from IAD, the "business class" is just a slightly wider seat and an empty middle seat. No seatback entertainment, and no meal service. But you're also not flying for more than 4-5 hours.

A lot of their flights leave around 2am when a bunch of flights to that region depart. Beware Dulles is super quiet then = nothing is open, including airport lounges. Bring a book and a snack.

Just be happy you're not on the newly-announced Boliviana flight from Dulles:

I just flew Avianca in business class from Dulles to San Salvador last month. The flight was fine. If it is cheaper than other carriers and if money is an issue, definitely take Avianca. No frills but fine.

I flew from dulles to bogota and back last month. It’s not nice but it got the job done. The flight back was a disaster-weather delays and equipment malfunction but I don’t necessarily blame them. Just bring your own food.

Spirit is ultra-luxury by comparison.

Any experiences flying Avianca? I get the impression they’re sort of the Spirit Airlines of Central America, but they have some very cheap flights and I’m tempted.
