My parents are still in the same town that I grew up in. I think of it as "home" because that's an area filled with people who knew me as a little kid and watched me grow up. I think the same was true for both of my parents and the towns they grew up in. There's just something about going back to the place where you spent your childhood.

I would expect my DCs to always refer to here as their "home" when they're older.

For some people home is wherever their parents are. I doubt you could pay me enough money to move back to where I grew up OR to live with my (remaining/living) parent. Both miserable places.

We moved around a bit, and my parents now live in a town I've never lived in, but they were all in the same state. I'd consider moving anywhere in that state to be "back home" for those purposes.

I don’t consider my birthplace and the house I grew up in as “home”. I’m home now, in then city and house I currently reside with my nuclear family.

What is "home"?

For some people this is a very easy question. You were born and raised in the same town/city/neighborhood/etc. and didn't leave until college or beyond. Perhaps multiple generations live in the same place. For others, like me, it isn't that easy. I have never lived in a city where my parents had roots. I have never lived in the same city as family (other than nuclear). Between kindergarten and 12th grade I was in 6 different school districts. So where is home? For me, I find a closer connection to the city where I lived during what I think are the most formative years - some middle school and high school. It also happens to be the place I lived longest, though that is kind of incidental.
