More is not always better. No one cares about the optional ACT writing, for example.

Check with colleges, but historically, portions of tests that become optional generally don't survive in the admissions ecosystem. People move on. So maybe in the year immediately following a demotion, that part of the test might still be welcomed by admissions officers. But it won't be for long.

Many universities are requiring it.

If you are intending to major in STEM- definitely include it.

With the new changes to the ACT, are kids still taking the now optional science section? My child will take the ACT in Sept and is curious how much it matters? It doesn't appear that schools care but curious if that's an accurate statement and what folks have been hearing and advised to do. Thanks
