I do too, OP. I’m starting to look at local bookstore and library options.

Public libraries. Some of them are great.

Stop looking for something that doesn’t exit and start one yourself

Check book stores, including the independent book stores, near you.

Also check alumni groups that might have a book club off shoot. Think college or grad school, sorority/fraternity. Church if you belong.

I’ve seen postings on neighborhood listservs.

Do you want to join strictly to talk about books? If so, look into virtual meetings.

I live in another state, but my library has a few book groups.

My friend runs one that new people find through Bookclubs.com. Maybe just keep trying?

Maybe join one at a bookstore or library and if you hit it off with some people you can splinter off.

It’s been years now and I want desperately to be in a book centered book club. I’ve looked on NextDoor, Meetup, and bookclubs.com to find an in person group but I’ve had no luck. I’m wondering if anyone else has suggestions for how else I might find a book club?

I want a real book club too but it's hard to find one that meets my needs and where there isn't one person who takes over
