Monday: pasta, frozen meatballs, salad, bread
Tuesday: mexican (bowls or tacos)
Wednesday: baked chicken + carb (rice if asian, potatoes if american, pasta if itailan) + veggie (should also go with the other things)
Thursday: veggie burgers with toppings (lettuce, tomato, pickles, condiments, cheese). I usually fry onions, roast a tray of half potatoes and half cauliflower, and make a small salad.
Friday: takeout
Saturday: decide last minute because sometimes saturdays are restaurants, or leftovers, or elaborate home cooked meals
Sunday: home cooked favorite, for us that's pizza or pulled chicken bbq or chicken tinga with all the fixings

I think there is a big difference between what a chef does, and what a parent who is trying to get dinner on the table, while also supervising HW, during the 30 minutes between walking in the door and leaving for soccer practice does.

Monday: pasta night, it's the fastest

Tuesday: grill night, some kind of meat (chicken, steak, pork chops...) plus a grilled vegetable. Usually add potatoes or bread on the side.

Wednesday: fish night. Could be grilled or roasted salmon, fish tacos, baked halibut. Salad or cooked vegetable, and rice.

Thursday: stir fry night. Various sauces and veggies, chicken or steak or pork, rice or noodles.

Friday: family favorites. Pizza, order takeout, or something special if we have more time (various curry dishes make a regular rotation here).

Sunday: my husband makes potatoes and steak, sometimes with a Caesar salad sometimes with green beans. Of course it’s a husband so sometimes he goes and gets wings for the family specially during football.

Monday: pasta… with meat sauce, or carbonara, or chicken cutlets. With a salad.

Tuesday: fish… either salmon or whitefish. Served with rice and a veggie.

Wednesday: grilled chicken I have about 10 different marinades I use. Sometimes I serve it with rice. Sometimes I serve it with Rice-A-Roni. Sometimes I serve it with roasted potatoes. And a roasted vegetable.

Thursday left overnight.

Friday and Saturday we order in

The point of meals is not surprise.

Anyway, OP, I tend to think in terms of categories: pasta/sauce/veg, casserole and salad, grilled meat+microwaved frozen vegetable+something raw, roast whatever + vegetables +quick bread, slow cooker something + fruit.

I'm assuming that you're looking for categories of meals that can lead to a variety of different meals? So something like pasta Monday, where you serve varying pastas, or taco Tuesday.

Here are some ideas that have worked for my family.

Pasta day -- Either store bought or homemade sauce (I have a few different types in my freezer at any given point).

Breakfast for dinner day -- Smoothies (On the weekend, I take a freezer bag and fill it with frozen fruit and baby spinach in the proportions I want, and then dump it in the blender with vanilla greek yogurt), scrambled eggs (my kids like salsa in their eggs), and something like toast or waffles or something I made on the weekend, maybe sausage or bacon or beans on toast if I have time.

Tacos day -- frozen breaded fish filet, or ground beef, or grilled chicken

Finger food day -- I make Chick Fil A dupe nuggets, broccoli cheese nuggets, (you can also buy each of these) and sweet potato fries

Pizza -- whole wheat naan, pizza sauce, cheese, whatever toppings they like

Soup and sandwiches -- Chicken noodle soup or hamburger soup with grilled cheese, taco soup with cheese quesadilla, minestrone with cheese and crackers etc . . . You can make soup or buy a healthier brand, or mix it up.

Add a vegetable and a fruit to each meal.

I love to cook, just not on rushed weeknights, and all of these can be made fancy. So, we can make lasagna if swim lessons are cancelled, or birria tacos if it's a snow day, or fancy pancakes for breakfast for dinner.

Anyone have suggestions for a weekly meal template? Ex- meatless Mon, taco Tues etc.

Trying to streamline things before school returns. Monday is our busiest night with activities . We generally like everything/no food restrictions. Thank you!!
