I listened to a lot of 90s/00s rap. I cringe now when I really listen to some of the lyrics, but it didn't impact my life or how I viewed things at all.

Get him some headphones. It is disrespectful to play loud curse words in a family home. Continue to talk about how it's fine if he listens to the music, but he should remember it's misogynistic, violent, etc. As long as he has your values, it will be ok. This is not the hill to die on, unless you're seeing some impacts in his real life.

My son really likes this band.... Piec Dwa Debiec (the album P-N X). It's technically hip-hop/rap and it's a Polish band. The best thing is that he doesn't speak Polish so they could be singing about the worst rap music content and he doesn't know. I love it!

I realize it's not a perfect solution, but look for this on iTunes and see if your kid likes it too.

And talk to him about the content of the songs so he learns your values. He will be exposed to things in movies/shows, what he hears on the news, what friends say, etc., and he needs to understand for himself what is good/bad in this world. Rap music is only one of the things you need to worry about. The teaching to be able to handle all of this happens at home.

Just ask him to wear headphones and talk to him about the dangers of drugs and about how to respect women.

Will Smith was not a rapper he was terrible. And LLCoolJ? And you didn’t join a gang? Whew that was a close one.

King Von has been dead for about five years so I didn’t even know that age group followed him. He was one of those Drill Music rappers. It does have more violent lyrics than basic rap. It’s all about the violent neighborhoods they live in, beefs and murder.

Awhile back they were all killing each other, UK drill rappers too. Maybe it’s changed, I don’t know. He’s listening to some older rap.

Oh my gawd. Take a Valium and go to sleep. Please ignore this and get a life.

Just ask him to listen to the clean versions. My 10 year old likes Rick Ross and Travis Scott, it really doesn’t bother me. I do wish he’d listen to more 90s rap like his mom though
