The fall off is due to following bad educational trends that throw away what works (using textbooks, making corrections, teaching classics, no screens, classroom discipline, rigorous curriculum).

The good MCPS schools (my DC attends one) don’t follow the bad trend. Seems to depend a lot on the principal and the tone they set and the parent community.

They expect from affluent parents especially in schools that have higher number of families making lower wages. If the richer families leave, mcps will be worse.

I am very unhappy with the English curriculum, because it's frankly abysmal, but the STEM is great, and better than in any DC area private school.

That's saying a lot. To must be in a magnet?

Agree with this. STEM is good for the smart kids in advanced classes. But English is weak. History is cursory.

What seems to be the most important thing is peer group. And that is very school dependent.

What is special about MCPS is being canceled by the current administration. So yeah, MCPS as a giant tax-money-sucking bureaucratic machine sums it up.

It could be much better. Will it ever be 100% for everyone. Obviously no.

I don’t think so. I think there are posters here who hate MCPS and it’s very hard to sift wheat from chaff on these topics. Admittedly my kid finished up a couple years ago but we were happy.

In terms of environment, teachers, and college outcomes.
