We are Italian. We’re always eating and testing and taking bites and eating more while we cook..

And then everybody sits down and eat more.

LOL! Who are you people? Most of you are subsisting on sandwiches or making your kids cook.

Everyone waits for the food to be ready. We sit at the table and the food is served to either a guest or the lady of the house first, then any other woman, then men in order of age.

Carrots, tomatos and cucumbers - cut up and served with a dressing - is you are still cooking.

I will also serve cut up pieces of fried protein as and when I finish frying them. If I am making a fish curry, and I have to fry the fish pieces first, I will fry some pieces for people to snack on before the full meal is finished cooking.

I want my family and friends to be happy in my kitchen. I do not have strict rules. They have to enjoy the food. Cooking for my family is my love language. No one's appetite is spoiled if they snack on the food being cooked first - obviously the snack is not raw. I also cook large quantities. No fear of running out of food if someone snacks on a piece or two.

Your DH is being rude.

Occasionally I mess up and things finish at different times, and so we will an eat in shifts. A few weeks ago these monster size potatoes did not finish baking when I thought, so we had meat and veg, then half an hour later had the potatoes. Normally I’d just keep the rest warm but everyone was hungry. Hey, I’m not a perfect cook so I can roll with a miss every now and then. But eating food as it rolls off the stove ahead of everyone is very rude.

Definitely wait, and I’m not ms manners for a lot of other things (im terrible at thank you notes for example) but I wouldn’t eat part of a meal while the rest is cooking

We eat together. Your DH is rude.

If people are hungry before dinner there could be a snack, but not from the dish I'm cooking.

I might let the kids ‘sneak’ a tiny piece of something, but we wait until everyone has their full plates and seated at the table before we eat.

I will often put a plate of fruit and vegetables on the table for the kids to eat while they wait.

But the rest of the food waits until we sit down together.

I finish everything and we sit down to eat. I try to time it so everything gets done at the same time.

Etiquette dictates that everyone waits until dinner is served, and the lady of the house has started to eat, before tucking in (grace optional). But I have a hangry teen who sometimes grabs something as soon as it's cooked - and I tell her this is bad manners. Your husband was raised in a barn, which does not make him a bad human, but I sure hope he behaves better in company.

DH grew up eating whatever is fine so if I am frying chicken and three pieces are done he would grab one and eat it or two and then eat again once all the food is cooked.

I grew up in a house where you waited until all the food was done so this irritates me.

What about you all?
