As a former preschool director, our rule was fever free AND all blisters crusted over. All of them. So by your description, she can go to daycamp now.

I think keeping her home is a good idea but I wouldn't isolate a toddler in her bedroom. You have already been exposed anyway, before you knew she was sick. Ask your pediatrician for guidance on when she can go back to camp.

Two weeks. That’s the real answer but no one can stay home for that long realistically.

Warning you that I caught it 2 weeks after my child was last sick.
They shortened the quarantine time because it’s so common and few people can stay home for weeks.

She was most contagious before you even knew she had it. It used to be that HFM had a long quarantine period but that’s no longer recommended. If she’s feeling better, no fever, and the spots are lot oozing or anything (and my kids’ never did), she’s probably fine. I would not isolate her from the rest of the family and let her go back to camp in the next day or so.

There are basically two schools of thought on this. One is that she has to be 24 hours fever free and the blisters all have to all be scabbed over, which usually takes a fairly long time (7 days-ish). We just had this go through my house and that was what urgent care said until the kids could go back to camp.
The other is fever free, feeling well, and blisters are getting worse not better. That generally faster, just a couple days.
The bottom line is that, like most viruses, you’re most contagious at the beginning, and then it gets less and less, and it’s hard to draw a firm line on when the risk is small enough to interact with people.

My 3.5 has HFMD. She never had fever, was acting herself but a bit tired weds-Saturday, sore throat on Friday (which is when we went to a doctor and realized she had HFM). She had a colorless lesion next to her mouth last week that turned into a blister on Saturday afternoon, which is now healing, and some very faint spots in the normal areas that are fading. She has one other tiny blister on her foot that is also scabbed over now.
No new spots.
We’ve had her isolated in her bedroom as much as possible and home from day camp. wondering how long she’s contagious for. She’s acting totally herself and seems fine. Thanks for any insight!
(FYI Doctor said when she’s fever feee 24 hours and no new spots/blisters healing, but just wanted to see how long that was for everyone else)
