I think everyone understands that people with limited sick leave are not necessarily able to stay home when they just feel a bit under the weather.

Why go to work when you feel like crap though? at this point I feel zero need to self-sacrifice. I don’t get sick that often so I can take 3-4-5 days until I feel myself again.

NP. At my company, we don’t have a separate leave bank, only PTO. If I took 5 days every time I had a cold, I’d never be able to take vacation. I don’t take off unless I have a high fever or am vomiting or something like that.

Not sure what I'd do. We don't have offices so and it's deathly quiet so any little noise is heard.

I hope you feel better soon, OP.

I think if you have the sick leave take another day for the cough to subside. After that it is what it is. If you truly feel fine then the cough is likely not contagious.

This happened to me the first week of RTO (of course). I went in. Didn't feel like that was good timing for sick leave.

Go to work. Spread the illness around. That’s what they want, I guess.

Judging by the coughing I hear through our paper-thin walls, most people come to work.

Ideally people would stay home while they are most contagious (so probably the first day you feel really bad and then while symptoms are increasing for the next day or two). Most people will still be symptomatic on day 3 but not be that contagious. but I know that expecting people to take even 3 days of sick leave is a lot. That said I do feel annoyed it I know the clearly contagious person in fact has a ton of sick leave and no reason to save it (ie no small kids at home or other family care responsibilities). But if it is my colleague I know already burns all their sick leave to deal with a chronic condition then good speed, keep the door shut.

Lol. A week for a cough?

I’ll probably take more sick leave for the days I feel really crappy, then request telework for the “not really sick but still snotty and gross and not 100%”. If they deny it so be it, I’ll take extra sick leave for a day then come into the office the next day likely still contagious. So it is basically the worst of both worlds (if they actually care) - I take more sick leave than necessary and also come into the office with active germs.

Going to work.

But I've never had consistent telework and I have an office with a door where I can quarantine myself and not get my co-workers sick.
