FWIW our interns were unpaid until relatively recently. I think some students get law school credit for it so we will still get those applicants. I do think it is unfortunate that people without wealthy parents will effectively be excluded because they won't be able to afford to live in DC without a salary.
I agree with you but IME most law students are living on loan money. That doesn't make it right and there's the whole issue of loan burden, but the access issue is not as bad as in undergrad or postgrad where unpaid internships really are impossible for a lot of students.
Someone will immediately post to tell me they worked all through law school, and that's fine, but most don't.
