Yes this. I have two little kids and always hear about the “mom chop” but the ease of hair that can go in a ponytail or claw clip is unmatched in my opinion. I’ve had a long bob before and it was super cute but actually quite high maintenance’s (maybe they are easier for straight hair? I wouldn’t know).

I'm a 39 year old mom and every mom I know has long hair (real or fake). And this is in Chicago i.e. all blue.

I have had a chin-length bob more or less since the mid-90s when I wanted to copy something like this: https://pin.it/2XzhbqUAs. With some variation in layers, styling products, etc, it is an easy cut to keep in style as long as you’re willing to get 3-4 trims a year—which doesn’t feel that excessive to me! If you have straight hair you don’t need a master stylist to pull off this cut.

Was just thinking about this recently. The HS aged girls at my DD’s school pretty much all have middle part, long hair. I can’t think of a single girl with short hair.

I love short hair and think it looks better in me than long, but haircuts have gotten too expensive where I live to wear it short. In the past I've had bobs, but the require trims every 3 or 4 months, and I've had pixies that should really be maintained every 6 weeks. It used to be possible to do this fairly affordable, but it's not anymore. So now I weart hair shoulder length and get it cut twice a year. It probably does start to look a bit straggly in between cuts, but when I can't get out of the salon for less than $130 for even a minor trim, that's how it is. I refuse to spend 1-3k annually on my hair.

I hate long straggly hair on everyone - women, men, little girls, little boys. But who cares what I think?

Bobs are in style. Plus, hair trends come and go but anyone with a flattering cut will look good.

I wear a bob, and have for the last decade +. I get compliments on it, from people with many different hair lengths. It works for me, and being happy with yourself is always the best choice when deciding on appearance.
OP, I'm not convinced what you are describing is actually happening right now, but who cares? You do you. They do them.

Women bobbed their hair in the 20s, shoulder length in the 30s and 40s, shorter cuts (Doris Day, Audrey Hepburn) in the 50s-60s, late 60s teen girls started wearing their hair long (older girls across the street from me were ironing their hair on the ironing board), transition to shags in the later 70s, "big hair" in the 80s--but Diana had short hair, and there were plenty of popular celebrities with short hair in the 90s, 2000s.

Now it's all extensions to an unnatural level (KG being the most extreme). Will they eventually fade away?
