OP: thanks but this is not the same as applying regular decision. They tend to be more generous with ED deferrals.

Where is your kid applying ED? If these 3 are top choices, I'd pick one for ED.

OP: DC's ED1 choice is that midwestern school which dcum finds so polarizing lol. These other schools will be RD.

My DC was this kid; had national-level ECs and related awards. Many talented TO kids get into Vanderbilt.

OP: to clarify, this was a regular decision applicant?

Deferred from ED and accepted RD. There's a lot written on this site for Vanderbilt (search on here - there's some good old tips). Think you have to ED1 or ED2 if you are TO - but maybe others have a different experience? Ask your school CCO.

At our school, only NW has had people get in RD test-optional.

OP: Not really, it's s super small private.

For context, older dc was rejected ED2 and/or waitlisted at all 3 schools w 1500+ a few yrs ago, which is why younger dc has no interest in retaking SAT to submit scores or even applying at all. Younger dc does have stronger ECs and national awards. Undersubscribed major.

Yes, know about one at Northwestern. But legacy and donor. So, who knows how applicable that is.

I think Vanderbilt would be the best bet here, but I think you'd need extraordinary ECs.

For test optional anywhere, they're going to assume that DC scored below the 25% so you have a lot to overcome. BC of grade inflation, that's very hard to do with a transcript.

Duke?
Northwestern?
Vanderbilt?

Wondering if it's worth dc applying.
