One of the new third grade teachers has been advertising tutoring over the summer on Bethesda-area listservs. It sounds like she is experienced. Here is part of what she posted.

"I’m a MCPS Elementary School teacher (and a BCC grad). I can help with phonics, reading comprehension, fluency and math skills. I have experience teaching 1st, 4th & 5th grades at MCPS. I have experience with Benchmark, CKLA & ELC (enriched literacy curriculum) curricula, Eureka Grade 4 Math and Compacted Math Grade 5 & 6."

The CES team looks the same to me - which is a good thing, many excellent teachers and many who have been at CCES for years.

They really don't have anywhere else they can go. There are few CES teaching slots, and CCES affords them a lot of autonomy to choose how to teach. They aren't likely to leave unless they move, go private, or stop teaching.

The CES team looks the same to me - which is a good thing, many excellent teachers and many who have been at CCES for years.

I think a certain amount of turnover is normal, but this is a extreme. I personally didn't like the last principal, but she hired well and generally maintained staff. I just took a look at the updated directory, and this principal has lost a lot of very talented teachers in just a year. That's a bad sign.

I know the grade level numbers have changed, so teachers have to be shuffled around. For example, if there were more 3rd grade classes than 4th they have to move teachers to fill those positions

But the school’s website and MCPS’ directory do seem to match here. Looks like almost the entire third grade team has turned over, plus several other positions. Does anyone know what’s going on?

I think there is going to be turnover at a lot of schools this year, because of overall turmoil in the region.

Conservatively, about 60,000 federal workers have been laid off. A similar number of contractors, and then a similar number of folks who worked for implementing organizations for USAID or State Department.

In my neighborhood alone I know two families with one laid off federal worker and one MCPS teacher. Both are leaving the area. The teacher can work anywhere, and the fed has better hopes for finding a job elsewhere.

It's my understanding that some teachers moved to schools closer to there they live, around Gaithersburg, and others were a lateral movement (classroom teacher to specialist)

Also the school's directory and MCPS staff directory don't always align

This was on the actual school controlled staff page, where they have pics of each grade team, etc. So I don't think it's related to the directory.

I can't say for certain but I think a lot of school staff directories are having problems and mistakes. My school has at least 10 staff members who were removed from the directory but are still working there. Not sure why it's happening though

I just looked at the staff page and it's been updated for the new school year. So many wonderful teachers gone! Is this tied to the new principal in any way? Or just a lot of turnover at one time?
