He wasn’t a deadweight. He had. I power in that family and was always been yelled at and told everything he did was wrong. He pulled back and walked on eggshells as many abuse victims do. He became very passive as a way of adapting to the dynamic.

This. People make a sport put if having basically a litter if kids, something human beings are not meant for (both because it's so dangerous to carry them, increasing risks to mom and babies, and because human childrearing is not designed to seen the needs of that many kids at the infancy and early childhood stages, in particular) and then demand sympathy while abusing and neglecting their kids. It's messed up. Any ethical doctor will limit the number of embryos implanted to avoid this.

YES. No doubt having 8 kids brought out the worst in her and I'm sure she was stressed to the max. She should not have been allowed to continue the pregnancy with that many babies. She belittled Jon, micromanaged everyone, was extremely controlling and inflexible, dismissive of everyone's feelings and emotions. Her kids endured so many HARSH punishments for really minor offenses. I don't know exactly what happened to Collin but it seems that her decision to institutionalize him was more about HER needs and inability to cope. That fact that they are still estranged today says a lot.

I am a Christian and I agree that people should not give birth to higher order multiples. There's a reason it does not happen naturally.

I’m pretty convinced she took clomid and either didn’t get checked for how many follicles she had that cycle, or had unprotected sex against medical advice.

I am a Christian and I agree that people should not give birth to higher order multiples. There's a reason it does not happen naturally.

I don’t even know how you can question this? She was an abusive woman - both physically, emotionally, and financially.

And she stole money for a trust that was supposed to benefit one of the kids.

I’m a SN mom so I do know people who have had to put their kids in residential placements for complex needs but she also never really visited him. And then when he said she was abusive she blasted that he had psychiatric diagnosis. I can’t imagine doing that to someone.

Yea, she was abusive to her husband and her kids. Stress doesn’t mean a man or woman can abuse their spouse and kids.

You cannot be serious. Physical abuse (wooden spoon, anyone?), emotional/psychological abuse (locking the sick kid in the laundry room, threatening to throw away the teddy bear because of the gum incident, etc.), parental alienation (badmouthing their father), sending her son away to an institution and refusing to tell his father where he was, exposing private moments of her kids to the world (pooping on the potty, etc.), moving half her kids to another state in the middle of high school, trying to keep up appearances (the plastic surgery, teeth whitening, hair extensions) while saying she was a struggling single mom and on and on. Controlling is the last of it.

Looking back as a responsible non-twenty something adult - and considering the dynamics of a marriage and that many children, I ask myself was Kate really the problem?


I don’t think I stand firmly in the camp of Kate was an awful person. She was stressed, life was happening real time, and her personality isn’t the sweetest Michelle Duggar type flow and vibe but she was take charge. She kept sh$@ under control.
