So maybe even a lesser known fact, but it is a very popular dish for people in PA to take to picnics. It is definitely a favorite of my kids. They like oregano added to it and definitely mozzarella on top.

Ziti is the type of pasta.
Baked ziti is the dish.

Ziti is a pasta. So you are still not understanding things. Maybe look for a youtube video on Italian cookery? Take a pasta making class through FCPS adult ed?

I understood her post to mean the dish called Baked Ziti.

She said she didn’t know that “ziti” was what everyone refers to as baked ziti. I think it’s fair for PP to point out that “ziti” as a standalone word is just a pasta shape.

I add some frozen spinach but yes, this is an easy one that the family praises like crazy.

My mom made baked ziti all the time growing up in NY in the 80s

Are you American? I don't know that my mother ever made it for us growing up, but I always knew about the dish from restaurants. I make it at home for my family, and my kids love it.

I randomly stumbled upon a popular YouTube chef making ziti and underscoring how it’s his kids’ favorite dish. I’ve certainly had ziti before — perhaps decades ago — but I’ve never made it for my family.

Basically just red or meat sauce with dollops of ricotta stirred in. Then, if you want, mozzarella on top.

I’ve served it to my kids twice and they LOVE it. I confess it is pretty terrific when using good pasta and good red sauce. It’s like a lasagna cheat code.

I turn 50 in December, I cook for my family 5 nights a week, and I legitimately never knew about this dish.
