If you go this route (which you might want to even if you decide to use a professional instructor for the initial go), I’d suggest you plan multiple sessions. There are two separate challenges to urban (indeed, any) driving: (1) knowing the route; and (2) dealing with the conditions.
If you pick some routes, early weekend mornings would be good to learn them and get introduced to DC driving (weird traffic lights, traffic circles, etc.). Once comfortable with those the next challenge would be dealing with volume and the related insanity, as during the day and especially at rush hour.
