It's a dumb idea. But if you want to do something that is somewhat reasonable, look into minimum volatility funds.

I mean it does so with no leverage. It’s 1x not 2x. Yeah, that’s the kind of stuff I would like to know. Are there any more etf tickers you can recommend that are good for a downturn?

What like SH which shorts the S&P, but does so with 2x leverage so you minimize decay?

Just short a market-wide ETF.

So this is a post for all those folks who have money in a taxable brokerage, who trade stocks and ETFs and want to make moves during a downturn.

I am of the opinion, and I have been wrong before, that tariffs will kick in at some point and harm growth. I think they will cause a recession within a year. However, for now, stocks are bouncing along absorbing the 15% tariff rates on this and that country that they are being asigned by this admin, but the market is still going up.

I think once consumers ease of certain purchase because importers will end up passing costs to consumers.

So I am going to buy consumer staples ETFs like XLP and vdc. SPDR Fund (XLU), the Vanguard Utilities ETF (VPU), and the iShares U.S. Utilities ETF (IDU). Also, XLV is healthcare which might be a good one in a downturn. Also, TSLQ or tsls.

Anyone have a plan with ETFs they like it a recession starts to appear? I guess you could try and sell quickly beforehand and put money in a money market fund until stocks rise again, but anyway, anyone thinking the way I am?
