I've been under him about 2 years, with the organization almost 18, am about a year/year and a half from retirement. I do my job well, and he respects me, but since about January (not fed) he's been more diffidult to deal with. Changing his mind about things, saying he'll do something then not doing it, micromanaging. We've been doing okay but last week things came to a head and I lost it, got frustrated, yelled at him, dropped the F-bomb a few times. We both calmed a little before he walked out of my office, but then I left on a work trip and we haven't interacted since. I have a regular check in with him tomorrow and I have no idea how to handle it. I'm sorry I got worked up but not really for the things I said. If I was a little closer to retirement I would just leave but I need to hang on just a little longer. What would you do?
There's a decent chance you're closer to retirement than you think you are.
