I don’t get why you use credit cards that give you miles if you don’t care about using them for travel. Why not use something like citi 2% cash back on everything then. Super easy.

I assume op isn’t just getting a regular room anyway. She’s probably getting pretty high end rooms. What is there to upgrade to?

If you can cash your points in for a shrink it's probably a better idea.

You don’t fly that often - then buy 15 plane tickets a year plus Amtrak trips. OK.

I don’t track points either. I fly about once every 4-5 years, and in the last ten years have stayed at a hotel once. My hhi is five figures.

I track every point and every penny, even my Starbucks and SweetGreen rewards. Ooh, and Chik-Fil-A rewards too, can’t forget about those!

Popping a boner OP? We don’t care about your income. Besides, your travel frequency and choices are boring.

You ca just use them for upgrades to first class etc. we have a much lower HHI and accumulate 200k of points (use and opening new cards for bonuses) and use them for free flights for the 4 of us. One of the ways we can afford several vacations a year.

We don’t fly that often. Maybe the whole family (5 of us) 3 times per year. No business travel ever. Flights are usually 2 domestic and one to Europe per year. We usually fly economy or economy plus. We are smaller people.

When we stay in hotels it’s usually at a fancy resort or a last minute hotel booking often at an iconic hotel.

We do travel a bit more than 3 times per year but usually just to east coast cities for an extended weekend like nyc, philly or Boston. We often go by train.

We are very HHI ($2-3M) with a once a decade eight figure year and UHNW. Nearly all of our income is passive although maybe half is taxed at ordinary income rates due to it being earned as interest or rental income.

We accumulate a considerable amount of credit miles (maybe 200,000-400,000 per year) but usually just spend it at Amazon or visa gift cards.

Is worrying about points worth my time?

As long as you use it for something (amazon or GC), I don't think you need to waste time maximizing how to use it.

Sounds like you don’t care about points which is your perogative. We have a high HI and significant NW (north of $8 million) and we’ve traveled all over the world with our kids using points. Our time is $ so we don’t do points that require a lot of time to get them but one of the reasons we have such a significant NW is we don’t leave $ on the table.

See if you can donate them? But otherwise, nah bro, no one is concerned about your families use of points.

Troll

Nobody in this situation is flying economy or taking the train to Boston.
