It depends on why you're having it (transvag). I have had several in my life, and they didn't hurt...except once. I had a cervical fibroid, previously diagnosed, and the wand pressed into and along side it causing discomfort, pain and worry. All worked out, the fibroid was eventually removed. A follow up was completely painless.

Nonsense. No pain whatsoever. You're scare mongering on purpose. Shame on you.

Agree that they’re more uncomfortable than painful, but the first one I ever had was post- miscarriage (with a male doc), so given the circumstances, kind of traumatizing.

I've had several. They put a sterile rubber cover and lubricant on it before insertion. Try to take a nice deep breath and relax your pelvis. Watch the screen to distract yourself (it's pretty interesting!) They will move it around inside to get a full examination and then slowly back it out. Let the tech or gyn know you're a little nervous and they'll walk you through it. You'll be totally fine OP!

I’ve had many and they’re not fun but not as bad as you’re probably imagining! Get yourself a treat afterwards

This. Had to have one when I was a teen. It was kind of traumatic bc the wand was big. It’s smaller now though, well thinner. It really doesn’t hurt. The worst part of that your bladder has to be full and they press on it. They tell you to drink a quart, but ime a 16oz bottle is enough.

First time I had one, I assumed all ultrasounds were like the movies and the device would be on my belly. Boy, was I shocked when I saw the wand!

I’ve had alot of them now, between a family history of ovarian cancer and an ivf/infertility journey. I think other pp’s described it well. It’s fine, just awkward. I was usually offered the chance to insert the wand myself. The only time the exam would be really uncomfortable was if they had a hard time getting the exact location they wanted. Sometimes they’d start digging deep on my left side looking for that ovary and I’d have to remind them it had been surgically removed already.

It’s nothing to worry about, OP! Not painful or even uncomfortable at all, just a little awkward.

It's more comfortable than a speculum but less comfortable than a dildo
