York has a similar program. Yorktown Tue/Thur and also various options at Renaissance.

For a new to club swimming Machine at Tysons offers some bridge type programs (high school prep as well as technique and fitness) that would keep your child in the water without it being a jump to multiple days a week. Fairfax Foxes or York are clubs that are smaller than Machine but not sure if they have similar programs. Not sure if I would go with Hydra as it is the first year it has existed. Unless NCAP has this bridge type program it's not what you're looking for either.

NCAP Tysons doesn't seem to have any group for a novice 14-15 year old swimmer. What group we're you thinking of?

NP, and he’d probably be a good fit for Tysons Gold Prep if there is space.

The clubs that practice at Providence, Oakmont, Spring Hill Rec Centers, including Fairfax Foxes, Fish, Machine, York all have programs that would benefit your child. Talk to the coaches of each to get a feel for fit.

Hydra is also close.

Lots of clubs in the Tysons area have programs that will meet your needs (Fish, Hydra, York, Machine) and are conveniently located. Recommend reaching out to a coach and getting their input.

If he's only ever done summer swim, he's going to be looking for a high school conditioning program. Most teams have something like that. The only 50 in high school is the 50 free-- other strokes are 100yards, so that's the big adjustment he'll need to make.

yes, if they are going into high school definitely encourage them to do high school swim! It's a great way for freshmen to feel a sense of community and belongingness at the school.

Don't just do high school swim, make sure to sign up for a year round club team too. There are lots of options in this area, like you mentioned. I know you said near Tysons, but we have had great luck at George Mason with Centreville Swim Club. They are amazing coaches there. My kid was on the fence about making the high school team but the coaches at CSC worked with him and he made the team. Now he's really into it and got really close to the championship cut times. Highly recommend!

DS14 had a good season, made it to Divisionals but not all stars but wants to get more serious. I am willing to support but am not sure what a good goal for him would be. I can’t swim and was not raised here. Should he be aiming to make a high school team? Just improving his times. Clearly we need a professional to guide him. Which swim schools in thr Tyson’s are are suited for a kid like him? We have a lot of options with convenient times and locations but are considering Machine. Any feedback on these?
