A tip seems a bit much but I’m sure a coach would appreciate a card with a thank you note from your swimmer and a gift card to somewhere where they could get a cool treat (ice cream, smoothies, etc)

It would probably be rude for him to say anything, but you should probably drop some hints. He's putting in the work, he should be rewarded.

We do team gifts for the coaches where thousands of dollars are free-will collected to top off their (really low) salaries. A cash gift beyond that would really look odd.
