What do you mean "Jet Blue said." Normally you get an email cancellation. If they were already at the airport, they have a responsibility to rebook them on the next available flight. Did your family ask them about free hotels/meals etc? Often airlines do pay if it's "operational issues" (aka their fault) but not if it's a flight cancellation due to weather or something beyond their control.
