Any Asian store will have them year round, sometimes MOM’s.

The only grocery stores where I’ve seen them regularly are the Asian stores like Lotte and HMart and Indian stores like Patel. They may also technically be Chinese eggplant - similar but not identical to Japanese if it matters.

At this time of year you also see them at farmers markets around the area. Bethesda (Sundays) always has a few stalls selling all kinds of eggplant.
