Mucinex with lots and lots and lots of water/liquids (herbal tea, soup etc…) if you don’t increase fluids, the mucinex will not work as well.

Nope. Wrong one. That one has pseudoephedrine, which is a stimulant and can cause heart issues. Also, good luck sleeping.

Just plain mucinex. Not behind-the-counter; it's on the shelf.

I'm happy to say that the Mucinex D worked wonders at loosening + drying things up enough that he could actually get a night of rest.

Great, and know for future reference that the pseudoephedrine can cause rebound congestion. If you do well with the combo, get both meds. Pre-combined medications are much less useful than stand-alone, single drugs. The cost for "just mucinex" and "just sudafed" isn't much different than the cost of mucinex-d, and may even be cheaper. Then, you can take mucinex 2x daily, and just take a sudafed in the mornings, as needed.

Glad it worked out for you, and there's a reason the recommendation was what it was. Know your drugs.

Just be sure to drink plenty of water!!!

Start with hot showers and blow nose a lot. I can't take anything with guaifenesin - makes me hallucinate

I really don’t think you want the D. Just stick to the regular one

+1
This is the best advice. I’d also try to get him to drink anything warm you can. My dd will drink warm broth, warm water w/ lemon, etc.

Mucinex! It is really effective. I even used it under a doctors’ guidance to manage symptoms of a really horrible cyst. It thins mucal secretions and makes them manageable.

DH has a horrid cold. Not Covid, not Flu A or B. Seems to be a cold-like virus of some sort. The mucus is so much it is making him vomit.

Best product suggestions? Mucinex? Tylenol Severe Cold & Flu? Other?
