I like Stonewall Kitchen. A whole basket.

Or Bonne Maman works.

Another option (if they are liberals) is a boxed selection of Penzey's spices.

You can also do fancy delivered cakes or baked good selections.

The point is, don't try to compete on monetary value or impress them, just buy them something they wouldn't necessarily think to buy themselves.

Another option is sending them flowers, but then you have to pick the right florist, and it's pretty easy to get flowers that seem down-market or somehow off to someone who can afford any flowers ever.

But good pots of jam are just good. To everyone. And everyone always needs more. But in this minimalist world, especially if you have two or three homes, you don't ever need another tchotchke.

I would never want jam, and I never need more of it. Yuck.

I don't necessarily think the distance is a problem, but I had an awkward step down in a highly trafficked place in a previous home and guests (even ones who knew it was there) tripped over it ALL the time. My elderly relatives are older now than they were when we lived in that house and I'd be so worried about it if we still lived there.

I don’t think you should do any gift, just write a card. Unless you can think of something that came up on the trip I guess, like they gushed over the wine key at a restaurant or something and you buy one for them.

Pots of jam.

Why not just do a Jelly of the Month Club? It's the gift that keeps on giving.

What kind of gift can we get him?
Someone who has everything and can buy anything.

Anything meaningful that you can think of that rich people love?

Get something that is meaningful to both of you- like if the friend is really into wine, get a special wine that you loved from a trip to California or France or whatever.
