Because I don't want to wait for the book I want. I don't want to read it in a specific time frame in order to return it on time. And, I lend a lot of my books which I can't do with a library book.

ebay has the cheapest books! some are free shipping some aren't. Most sellers do a buy two get one free, I got 3 books for $7 delivered to me a few times now!

Better World Books is my favorite.

I find their condition reports better and they don't just deal with remainders (I feel like Thriftbooks and bookoutlet are mostly remainders?).

They are also better at logging specific versions of a book, so if you're looking for an older version, you can often find it there.
