It’s kind of an absurd summer destination anyway. Miserably hot.

This happens all the time after any disaster (see the longwinded social media posts re: where I was on 9/11, etc.). I absolutely hate how narcissistic some people are.

It is the worst. Same with the Notre Dame fire, the Maui fire, it's so predictable.

And, I honeymooned there, so I understand why it’s a big deal to people, but it was just a lodge…

Well, didn’t the lodge burn down already? I thought they rebuilt it in 1932. Not to be that person - but compared to sites in Europe or something, it’s hardly ‘historic.’

‘Iconic’ seems more fitting.

I do think it's being reported. But it would be a bigger story if it were the south rim which is open year round. The north rim is only open a few months a year and receives way fewer visitors.

I hadn’t seen that. From what I read the fire service made the wrong call in allowing the fire to continue.

Not sure if this has been discussed or not, but found out today that a wild fire at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is burning out of control and has destroyed the historic Grand Canyon Lodge building. We were at the South Rim earlier this year and had it on our bucket list to stay at the GC Lodge on a future trip.
