Why amoxicillin instead of doxycycline? I was on doxycycline for 3 weeks, but still developed Lyme symptoms (eg, numb face, peripheral neuropathy) by approximately day 5 of the antibiotics. The tick was just discovered too late.

Doesn't doxy cause teeth discoloration in children whose adult teeth have not emerged?

She needs to get bloodwork drawn. They should hav done a blood test and then started her on antibiotics before the results were back because you want to start treating right away.

Did they draw blood for labwork? If not, have her regular doctor do some bloodwork to confirm the diagnosis and ensure there isn't anything else going on. It could be a different tick-borne illness or an unrelated condition. If she continues to get worse, maybe go to the ER to have the labwork done.

This all sounds strange to me. Perhaps she had an earlier tick bite, but I if it's from the one last week, I wouldn't think she would already have full blown lyme? We have been dealing with this for years with my dd, and it's strange to me that they are diagnosing it just based on symptoms. Have they done any blook work? Did you send the tick for testing? Are you sure it was even on her long enough? Lyme has basically ruined my dd's life, but I wouldn't be surprised if your dd has a virus, or something else?

Doxy preferred over amox. Please try and get her at least 3 if not 6 weeks. She has systemic symptoms already. There are functional med /lyme literate doctors who can help her more now than at any other stage in this illness. This is an absolutely horrible disease if not caught early enough.

NP. I thought doxy was preferred over amoxicillin.

When I was diagnosed with Lyme, about 10 days or so from the tick bite, I started doxy immediately and felt better within a few days. It's a wonder drug.

Ftr, while I had taken doxy years earlier for a different reason, when I took it that time I got the sun sensitivity issue and had burns on my hands. For the course of treatment, I wore sunsleeves and sun gloves and long pants.

Move her to the couch or set up an iPad so she can watch a show. Will be a better distraction for her from feeling bad.

My DD, age 11, was just dx with Lyme disease, but without a test. It was at a pediatric urgent care.

I did find a tick on her last week, but I thought I got it off early. Now she has a rash, headache, lethargy, and intense leg pain.

We have amoxicillin. We gave her kid Motrin for the pain. She’s laying in bed whimpering and listening to the Bach cello suites to distract her from the pain.

Anything else I can do for her? Anything I should be doing?
