It’s very traditionally white American and I am not sure other races or cultures even do that. I know a lot of immigrants don’t and they want to be left alone

Are there any strong, offensive odors emanating from your neighbors' property ?

If yes, then stay away;

If no, then assume that everything is okay & that there is no need for you to disturb their preferred private lifestyle existence.

I always welcome new people on my street but out neighborhood is friendly and helpful.

Yep. Just carry on.

Why didn’t you introduce yourself? This area is not very sociable. You don’t need to invite people for dinner, but can’t you say hello?

Similar position here (haven’t quite met everyone and it has been years) but I agree with the person that said it is two way street. I haven’t reached out either. I am okay with that but would nice to meet them if the situation naturally arises.

It might be nice to introduce yourself with a “I can’t believe I haven’t done this sooner, but my name is ….” Not likely you’ll become besties, but it doesn’t hurt to have a cordial relationship.

I don’t really feel drawn to deepen friendships with my current neighbors. we are friendly but not friends.

We do look out for one another though. We’re all like unaffectionate cats. Protect the colony, give one another space. I’d do any favor they ask and we have one another’s keys but we don’t hang out at all.

In the 3 years why have you never introduced yourselves to them?

Meeting folks is a two-way street. They are no more obligated to knock on your door than you are to knock on theirs.
