If you add up 3 meals and day, what weekly day camp costs (horseback riding as example), the cost of the bus to and from camp daily, and so on it puts it more in perspective.

Depends how long the camp is. 7 week ones are at least 11k. 3-4 week ones are 7-8k

Just fyi- a lot of camps have financial aid. My DD got 50% off all years- still expensive but a lot more reasonable. There was no stigma at her camp.

Girl Scout camps are about $600 for the week, depending on what you choose. You have to register as a girl scout ($25) but do not attend with a troop and do not need to scout during the year. My kid always has a good time.

They get a lot of criticism on this board so as a heads up: these are traditional, low key camps where you do tie dye, campfire skits, swimming pool, some entry-level outdoor stuff. Your camper will not be whitewater rafting or rock climbing so don't expect that.

My kids did some of the most expensive camps there are in the country because of my DH family. Yes they were fantastic however were they worth the cost nope.
