If you go to Costa Rica, definitely spend some time on the Osa Peninsula. Be sure to take the boat trip there versus flying. We stayed here, and it was amazing. https://www.copadearbol.com

Truth be told a lot of teens would prefer it, but too low brow for the luxury travel pissing contest.

OP asked for a once-in-a-lifetime, adventurous destination.

If break is early-mid March, rafting, horse riding and hiking in Chilean Patagonia.

No info on this tour operator but just a sample itinerary with Torres del Paine add on:

We hiked the Inca Trail in April, and it was amazing, but if your spring break is in March, I would hesitate bc it’s still the rainy season then. This year the trail didn’t open until April because of unusual rain and mudslides in March. If you just want to do the day tour of Machu Picchu, then you can do that any time, but doing the trail is definitely the best way to experience Machu Picchu.

Morocco, including camel ride and glamping in the Sahara. See the ancient medina in Fes and stay in a palace-like riad for less than the price of a Marriott Courtyard. See Ait Ben Haddou and stay in an ancient kasbah lit solely by candlelight. Nonstop flights from DC to Casablanca. Weather is perfect in spring.

Galapagos, although it's so crowded now. Maybe the Amazon?

Seeking recommendationds for a once-in-a-lifetime spring break send-off trip with my wife and twin sons, who will be 18 by the end of the year. This is their final year of high school, and we’re hoping to make this a memorable, engaging, reflective and meaningful and confidence building adventure before they graduate. A Costa Rica eco lodge/ rafting trip comes to mind or NOLs but I am open minded. Not sure on budget but we are comfortable spending for the right trip...usually middle to upper end travelers but not exclusive or most luxurious accommodations.
