I think DOGE was awful, but if there was ever a government that needed a DOGE-ing, it's the DC government. It has to be the most wasteful government on the face of the earth.

Ha! $250,000 puts you in the top 2% of HI in the country.

Stop trying to justify not paying g your fair share. Greedy rich people like you crying “middle class” is gross.

Anyone who has developed a career can earn 250k as a couple. Secretaries and low HR people can easily earn $125k each, which would put them at $250k. Many civil servants working for three government at the state, city, and federal level earn $125k+.

You keep talking about taxing rich people when you're just arguing to jack up taxes on lowly administrative staff and all of the low level government workers in DC. Newsflash genius: $250k isn't worth nearly as much in the DMV as it is in the vast other parts of the country.

$250k this is running on fumes, especially with childcare costs in this area.

So you admit that you still have a little bit more than you can give to the government. DC would like their share of your extra wealth.

Thank goodness. But he could get overruled, right? I don't know the ins and outs of the Council or what power the Chairperson has

LOL it's one thing when federal income taxes go up (everyone affected in all states) but this strategy is entirely unsustainable when people can just move across the border to Virginia or Maryland. You can't keep drawing water from a shrinking well forever

Then let them move. Who wants to be in some lame lifeless suburban encampment, spending your life in your car or riding endless red line or silver line trains just to get into the city? No thanks.

That's a lot of hubris assuming DC is an interesting city.

The city has a new program subsidizing the private food delivery business. Why? Who knows, but the money has to come from somewhere.

The city wants to give $500,000 to a single pot store in Anacostia. Why? Who knows, but that money has to come from somewhere.

The city is spending a quarter-million dollars a pop on special machines that clean bike lanes. That money has to come from somewhere.

Matt Frumin (Ward 3, ironically) proposing an income tax increase on households making $250K+, and Zach Parker (Ward 5) proposing a capital gains tax increase. All this will be decided in dark of night in the next 10 days or so.
