It’s sad. They could only afford a multistory house in town instead of an expansive one-floor villa on a large piece of property. Now they have to spend their golden years climbing four flights of stairs. That’s tragic.

Why do you assume they are trying to impress you? I enjoy hearing about what people are doing in their lives. If that means they traveled to Iceland, cool, tell me all about it. If you went camping 20 min away? I'm interested too!

I think people do brag about vacations but none of the examples you mentioned seemed like bragging. Seems like people were just talking about it? I do think it is odd when people list all the places they traveled to in their Holiday/end of year card. We know a family who does this but they are just love to brag period. But just talking about it? No.

Only insecure people think someone telling you about their vacation is bragging.

I enjoy hearing about everyone's vacations and travel, so it doesn't come off as bragging to me. Sure, if you go on and on about how you flew business class and stayed in suites, etc, that's different. But just bringing up your vacation to Paris? Not bragging to me.

Same! I think people who take it as bragging are insecure about the topic in some way.

I honestly love hearing people talk about their travels. I am always thinking about it and planning the next trip. I love checking Facebook and Instagram in the summer (I never post but enjoy checking) because some of my friends post a lot of vacation pics. I love it. I love seeing their kids having fun, and I take notes and ask them for recommendations if we end up going to the same place.

So, I'm firmly in the category of loving to hear, read, and see pictures of my friend's trips.

Well, it's better than talking about politics or religion.

It can be perceived as such. Honestly, it's not terribly interesting conversation unless you're discussing an extraordinary or shared travel experience or you're giving advice and recommendations to someone whoa asked for it.

When you talk about travel with others, is this bragging or not?

I'm really trying to figure this out. My mother talks nonstop of all of her travels and references everything from various points from her traveling. When I went into an interview, the boss weaved in a story of his travels and how he ran into a family member while traveling across the globe.

When I took my DD trick or treating, a lady rudely told my DD that she traveled to Paris just out of the blue. I'm starting to piece the puzzle together that people think they are better or higher than you (speaking as a women) if you travel more. Am I right? Is this what is going on???
