I would make an appointment with an orthopedic specialist. I sprained my ankle a month ago and finally went in about a week ago because it wasn’t getting better. After MRI, I found out I have two torn ligaments, which have to be surgically repaired. I likely made my ankle worse by walking (really, limping) around on it for so long.

Frequent sprains is a sign of or torn ligament.

There are yoga exercises one can do to actually strengthen your ankles, feet and calves. I have been doing these exercises for 25 years and never have twisted or rolled an ankle.

I would not go to urgent care. There is nothing they can do.

PT is a good idea. After rolling both ankles a million times (not really serious sprains), I eventually developed bilateral Achilles tendonosis. Not tendonitis, not a typo. It’s permanent damage to the Achilles and I can improve it with surgery but not fix it. The doctors don’t think sprains caused it but did modify my mechanics in a way that made me very vulnerable to Achilles problems.

I just saw my podiatrist about an ankle injury. He said once the ligaments are stretched they’re prone to re-injury and it’s hard to get the muscles strong enough to do much to prevent it. Supportive shoes (including sneakers in the house) and a brace if doing risky activities were his suggestions.

Your PCP can refer you to PT. Just rest, ice, and elevate.

I just twisted my ankle. I’m icing it. Does this warrant a trip to urgent care?

This is my third time twisting this ankle and I’d like to somehow get PT so this doesn’t happen again.
