This. He's filling in what he thinks is the right thing to say, to seem normal.


Reiterating this x 1000. My mother with Alzheimer’s does this pretty much 100% of the time.

He may think your mom is a nag ( even if she's not a lot of men in that generation default to that) so just instinctively says he did whatever it is she is saying was done or should have been done.

Get blood work done. Could be dementia. Lack of sleep. Stress. Or all of those things plus or minus something.

I am with my parents and had turned the stove off. My mom said the stove was off and my dad goes ”Oh sorry I just turned it off”
…. I am the one who did that. He keeps acting like this and I don’t know if he’s super stressed or what? 65 years old
